What’s the best way to save on fuel? This is a question people ask over and over again, especially in today’s economy. Standard answers such as “Travel at lower speeds”, and “Lighten your load (take all those things out of your RV that you don’t need)”, and “Plan your trips more carefully so you don’t make more trips than necessary” are common suggestions.

BUY A TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM (“TPMS”). This has proven to not only add safety when traveling, but to save on fuel as well. Underinflated tires waste over 5 million gallons of fuel each day! That’s about 2 billion gallons/year in the U.S. alone.

Having a TPMS allows users to continuously monitor pressures, whether moving or parked. Loss of tire pressure is a major factor in contributing to tire damage, ply separation or blow-outs. Knowing what your pressures are at all times, including even while driving down the road, is a key factor in maintaining your tires. A towed vehicle is even at greater risk, since one cannot feel or see if there is a low-pressure tire on the towed vehicle.

A TPMS would alert BEFORE the tire deflates to dangerous levels. Many people think they experienced a blow-out, but usually the tire has picked up a nail, perhaps the day before, and has slowly lost air, until finally there is a blow-out. Knowing ahead of time (the day before or hours before) could have saved the tire in most instances, as one would have been alerted by a low-pressure tire with a monitoring system, and could therefore could have repaired the tire rather than having to replace it. And the cost to repair a tire would have been significantly less than having to replace a tire.

The PressurePro TPMS is a self-install system. The tire Sensors replace the valve stem caps, and the Monitor attaches to the dash area via Velcro and plugs into the cigarette lighter receptacle, or it can be hard wired. One can check tires by the push of a button on the Monitor, even while driving down the road. Sensors are wireless, and transmit to the Monitor; the pressure range is from 8 to 299 psi. Sensors recognize tire pressure at the time of installation as their “base-line” and can be reset or reprogrammed, proving users versatility. The expected battery life for a PressurePro Sensor is five + years. Sensors can then be traded in for brand new ones with new technology and new batteries for $35 rather than $50 each.

PressurePro systems are available for cars, motorcycles, trucks, RVs – anything with wheels. PressurePro truly does offer peace of mind!

How can fleets calculate ROI? There are several things to consider when calculating the real return on investment for a tire pressure monitoring system. A simple ROI calculator tool that reveals a bottom line number could be misleading, as there are several things to consider:

Tire costs should include new tires and retreads. If the tire pressure is maintained properly for the life of the casing, the fleet should be able to get multiple retreads. A tire pressure monitoring system will ensure proper tire pressures.

Fleets should determine all the costs directly associated by utilizing a baseline that consists of fuel costs, tire expense, time and labor to manually check tires, rate and cost of roadside assistance, etc. The improvement from the baseline costs will give the most accurate measurement for true ROI over time.

The cost of road-side assistance is an important advantage in gauging a fleet’s investment return. Since approximately half of all emergency roadside assistance calls are found to be the result of some type of tire failure, the savings can be substantial.

Fuel costs are negatively affected by running improper air pressure levels in tires, i.e. a 10 PSI under-inflation level has been shown, by conservative estimates, to reduce fuel economy by more than 0.5%. A 20 PSI under-inflation level reduces fuel economy by up to 2.0%. For a truck running 100,000 miles per year, this could mean that the vehicle would need to use an extra 340 gallons of fuel (based on an average of 6 mpg). At current diesel fuel prices, the added expense to run an 18-tire vehicle, at 20 PSI below optimal inflation levels, would cost an extra $1,700.00!

One should consider the savings that can result relative to the associated liability for preventable accidents due to tire loss, vehicle downtime and customer penalties due to late or mishandled deliveries.

It is estimated that most fleets will have an ROI in the range of 4-6 months, if the total costs are properly accounted for when using an effective TPMS system.

Summary: A quality TPMS system should be a key element in any fleet maintenance program, especially if overall safety improvement and cost reduction goals are to be met. While tire pressure monitoring systems are extremely effective as stand-alone solutions, the greatest return is found in organizations that are proactive and diligent with their entire maintenance program. A Fleet will profit from a system which is easy to install, easy to use and has an affordable price tag. The larger ROI comes from the combination of the right TPMS product and a maintenance program that focuses on safety awareness.

When selecting a tire pressure monitoring system (“TPMS”), and assuming that a tire pressure monitoring system has all the necessary capabilities (temperature, over and under inflation alarming and slow leak detection), then the following advantages can be realized:

Overall tire life can be substantially extended by monitoring tire pressure in real time. (A 20% under-inflated tire reduces tread life by approximately 25%.)

Properly inflated tires predictably increase overall fuel economy.

Tires that are under-inflated by 20% lose approximately 30% of the life of the casing. A TPMS system significantly extends the life of the casing so that a tire can be safely retreaded up to five (5) times to a useful life of over 1 million miles.

Increases overall safety of the vehicle by detecting overheated, under-inflated, over-inflated and slow-leaking tires.

Helps to prevent late deliveries from unforeseen tire mishaps.

Reduces overall liability exposure for property damage and workers compensation and insurance cost increases from tire blow-outs and tire separation.

Provides the means to help compare various manufacturers’ overall tire performance (tread wear, retreads, etc.) as it relates to tire expense by brand.

Aids in tire benchmarking by collecting, comparing and statistically analyzing tire data. Such things as tire temperature versus tire pressure levels over time, by vehicle type, vehicle weight and tire position can be documented, leading to improved performance against predetermined benchmarks.

What type of fleets are buying tire pressure monitoring systems (“TPMS”)?

Fleets which have trailers hauling hazardous materials, flammable liquids, etc. and often have larger liability concerns with potential catastrophic accidents.

Fleets that have a greater knowledge and understanding of their tire and fuel costs; commonly have a set standard to measure tire performance versus tire expense.

Fleets that have critical on-time delivery schedules such as frozen and refrigerated goods.

Fleets that tend to be more profitable, as safety awareness programs are often found to be a core part of their maintenance agenda.

Trailer only fleets that have independent drivers pulling their trailers. Large trailer yards generally have limited ability to manually check tire pressures on an on-going basis.

So you are going out of town for a long weekend with your family, and are planning on taking along the boat for a getaway out in the ocean. If you are connecting it by a hitch on the back of your SUV or pickup, you want to ensure that you will get to your destination safely, as well as your boat and your car. So a tire pressure monitor is a great way to ensure not only that the pressure on your vehicle’s tires are at the proper level, but that the boat trailer tires are also at the proper tire pressures. True peace of mind is knowing what your tires are doing at all times. Usually a blowout can be averted with a tire pressure monitoring system because you have early warning that you picked up a nail during your drive. Fixing a tire is less expensive than replacing one!

Tire pressure monitoring products today have become so high tech that the driver can place the digital reading Monitor right on his vehicle’s dashboard, simply press a button, and get a reading of all the tire pressures to ensure that everything is at the right pressure. The dashtop Monitor will inform the driver if there is possible danger of one of the tires running too low or too high on pressure during the trip. The Monitor will also inform the driver which tire or tires need to be checked to alert before any damage may occur. You can pull over and then take care of the problem, or you can even watch the pressure on your Monitor and if it is a slow leak, continue driving until you reach a safe destination.

To ensure your family is safe on a long drive, and that your expensive boat won’t be damaged, the use of PressurePro tire pressure monitors are a great way to make sure your vehicle is performing at its highest possible level, and that you are not in danger of an impending blowout either because you picked up a nail or because tire pressure isn’t at the optimal level. PressurePro: Save fuel, cut downtime, reduce maintenance, extend tire life. Developed and manufactured in the USA.

There are several different types of tire pressure monitoring systems available which can assist in avoiding excessive tire wear and casing damage caused by under inflation. Tire pressure monitoring systems can also help drivers maintain optimal pressure levels, improving braking, handling and stability. And they also help avoid excessive fuel consumption caused by under inflation. There are systems for RV vehicles and towed vehicles, as well as for SUVs, trucks/trailers, buses, fifth wheels and industrial vehicles.

The PressurePro RV and towed vehicle tire pressure monitor can monitor up to 16 wheels and receives the wireless signal through radio frequency. The Monitor, attached with Velcro and attached to the dash area, is $205. Sensors, ordered separately, are $50 each. Another tire pressure monitor option is for trucks, tractor/trailers and fifth wheels, which monitors up to 34 wheels; they also receive their signals through radio frequencies. This variant is $245 for the Monitor, plus the Sensors ($50 each). These tire pressure monitors are designed to display the real-time air pressures in your vehicle’s tire, so it can alert you when your tire pressure is too low (or too high). They allow you to check the pressure of your tires anytime from inside the cab area, whether driving down the road, or while stationary.

When dealing with tire pressures, you want to make sure the equipment that you are using is accurate and reliable, allowing for worry-free driving. The PressurePro tire pressure monitor, made in the USA, updates your vehicle’s tire pressures every 5 minutes, but if you have a low or high-pressure tire, you will have an immediate alert telling you which tire and what the pressure is in that tire. Now you could not readily have this, if you did not have this product! You will save money out of your own pocket book, which also saves you maintenance costs of having to buy new tires because they were damaged by not stopping in time, or perhaps because you experienced a blow-out because you didn’t have an early warning. This product will overall save you money by extending the life of your tires by maintaining proper air pressures. Also, you will not have to worry about downtime due to having tire problems on the road. PressurePro also has the ability to show you the temperature measurement in addition to the tire pressures. PressurePro for peace of mind.

If you are hauling a horse trailer, a large truck or 5th wheel vehicle, the last thing you need is for one of the tires to blow out, not only causing damage and possible injury to you, but to other drivers on the road as well. When tire pressure is too low on your vehicle, it can lead to a very dangerous driving situation as the tire can eventually overheat and/or result in a blow-out and possibly cause an accident. Tire pressure monitoring systems can warn of a low or high-pressure tire, and also assist in avoiding excessive tire wear and casing damage caused by under inflation. And, if safety reasons aren’t enough for you to purchase a tire monitoring system, be aware that you are burning up to twice the fuel you would normally, if the tires were properly inflated.

Electronic monitor systems today are so high-tech that they can check the pressure of all tires, and tire positions, with the push of a button, alerting the driver of an unsafe condition. These monitors will alert the driver when the tire pressure is too low (or too high), and will quickly show you which tire or tires are not at the proper levels they should be.

The electronically digital systems are easy to read and even easier to use. They are error proof, as all the driver has to do is press a button, and it will automatically display a digital reading. The PressurePro TPMS will display readings in PSI, BAR, or kPa levels, depending on what you set it to read. It will also alert the driver when there is low pressure (12.5 and then 25% below the baseline), or at variable upper alerts as well. The Monitor is easy to mount on the dash with Velcro strips to place right in front of you, so you can continually monitor the tire pressures when on the road or stationary.

Tire pressure monitoring devices are a great way to help prevent accidents by catching a tire problem before it gets out of control, and also even helps to save drivers on fuel costs. Enhance your performance by keeping your vehicle’s tires running at top performance with a PressurePro tire pressure monitoring system.

Today with many new technological advances, manufacturers have been able to design motorcycle tire pressure monitoring systems which work wirelessly to monitor your bike tire pressures, increasing safety and optimizing economy on your ride. Ensuring the tire pressure is properly monitored and maintained not only helps to extend the life of your tires, but it will also help save on fuel costs.

The PressurePro Monitor is capable of giving a 24/7 alert/alarm in a digital display on the electric monitor, and can warn the rider when the tire pressure on their bike is low, indicating which tire and what the actual pressure is. These monitors can work in most any riding condition: rainy and inclement weather, and under any heat or cold conditions. Sensors, which transmit wirelessly to the monitor, replace the valve stem caps and have been drop and shock tested to make sure that they will provide optimal durability.

The PressurePro monitoring system is so advanced that it can even check tire pressure while riders are driving on the open road. Therefore, you can ride in comfort, knowing that if something is not right, or if the pressure drops below its desired rate, the monitor can alert you so you can fix the problem before driving becomes unsafe.

The monitors and sensors are weather resistant, offer a digital display for easy readings, and can check the pressures for anywhere from 1 to 6 tires. The dash-mount monitor will also display the tire which is low on pressure, and will give you a current readout of what the pressure level is so you can inflate the tire to the desired psi.

For ease of mind out on the open road, and the peace of mind knowing your tires are properly inflated, a motorcycle tire pressure monitor is a great tool for all riders. (Alternate PressurePro models are also available for RVs, towed vehicles, trucks, tractor/trailers and SUVs.)

Advances in telematics and onboard technologies now offer a wealth of information direct from the truck to the office. In many cases, a multi-voiced conversation is going on inside the rig that the driver isn’t even aware of. Sensors, databases, GPS receivers, modems and other devices are constantly talking: to each other, to the trucking company’s back office, and occasionally to the driver. Telematic technologies have changed dramatically in recent years as fleets have begun to extract more from their mobile communications, onboard computers and fleet management systems. Automating more tasks can now allow driver managers to spend more time managing.

The onboard computers can talk to the databases on the vehicle, talk to the sensors that they are monitoring (such as tire pressure monitored by PressurePro), and aggregate that data and make decisions on board. Information is sent back in real time to a supervisor so he can determine if the vehicle is being operated safely and efficiently. Thus, more things can be automatedsuch as fuel tax reporting since one knows from the GPS tracking when the truck crossed a state line and how many miles they ran in that state. If a driver is delayed, an onboard system can compare where the truck is to where it is scheduled to be, and then send an alert to the customer or the dispatch manager.

Fuel costs can also be more accurately managed by onboard computers or engine databases. Systems can now help fleets make decisions at the end of the month, so instead of seeing how much fuel you burned, you can see how much fuel you saved.
