Tire inflation pressure is the number one maintenance issue that fleets face today.

Low tire pressure can have a significant impact and affect on fuel efficiency. Fuel economy can drop almost 5% at 30% under inflation. For instance, if a specified inflation of 100 psi is not adhered to, and is actually 60 psi, it will reduce fuel economy by up to 6% and will destroy the tire as well.

Approximately 7% of all tires are under-inflated by at least 20 psi. A tire that is 10% under-inflated can equate to a 5% increase in fuel use and can reduce fuel economy by about 1%. And improper tire inflation, if it is as little as 10 psi low, could also equate to 25% less tread-wear life.

It has been shown that automatic tire pressure and/or monitoring can:

Increase useful tire life

Maximize the casing value

Reduce downtime and expense

Improve fuel efficiency

There are several tire pressure monitoring systems (“TPMS”). Some only monitor inflation pressure and have a low-pressure warning light, while others can display the actual tire pressure on the dash-mounted monitor, and can alert when pressures are too low or too high. The tire sensors are external and replace the valve-stem caps; and via a radio frequency, they transmit tire pressures to the monitor. Other systems are mounted inside the tires and require professional installation.

Since most drivers do not regularly check their tire pressures, a TPMS is a valuable and economical way to ensure safer driving by maintaining properly inflated tires.

To: L&S Safety Solutions/PressurePro

Wanted to say THANK YOU for your assistance! That did the trick (merely replacing the sensor rubber gasket).

Thank you for the customer service, willing to sell me the low-cost option to fix the problem, not the higher-cost option of buying a new sensor. Appreciate it very much.

Also just a note to let you know I purchased a repeater unit before this last trip. Had no issues with any wheel pressure sensors not being readable this trip.

Rig is 42 feet with tag axle and towing a double axle trailer. Previously I’d periodically lose signal from trailer tires and some of the right rear duals (Pressure Pro console monitor is mounted left front by driver). Again thanks for a great unit and low cost fix to the issue!

You guys and Pressure Pro are definitely on my “will recommend” list!

Regards,

Drivers and fleets of all types understand the significant benefits tire pressure monitoring systems can provide. The tremendous increase in media attention and market awareness, rising gas prices, increased costs of tires, insurance and labor, as well as the increased understanding of the relationship between low tire pressure and accidents, injuries and deaths and legal and liability issues and costs, are stimulating strong interest in maintaining proper tire pressure. As a leader in the TPMS market, PressurPro is striving to bring greater awareness to the market and to state why these four simple letters, “TPMS” can have such an impact on safety, savings and efficiency. With low tire pressure remaining the #1 cause of tire failure, it is clear that proper tire pressure remains critical for vehicle and passenger safety. Underinflated tires experience added bend and flex causing sidewalls (casings) to break down, allowing the tread to separate or rip. Vehicles with proper tire pressures also enjoy greater stability, handling and braking efficiencies which provide added safety and savings.

Benefits of PressurePro:

Increased fuel efficiency means savings and lower carbon emissions.

Warns before driving becomes unsafe, thus minimizing cost and inconvenience.

Saves money; fixing a tire is less costly than buying a new one and repairing your vehicle.

Assists in extending tire life and provides greater tire integrity through advanced TPMS technology.

Reduced roadside and vehicle downtime as well as lower maintenance costs.

Favorably impacts insurance coverage and liability costs.

Assures that your tires, the only thing between you and the road, are monitored constantly.

Provides Peace-of-Mind.

PressurPro has become recognized for its reliability, durability, accuracy and ease of use; PressurePro remains the only TPMS provider to design, develop and manufacture their TPMS product in the USA. Whether your need is safety, savings or efficiency, you need something you can rely on; you need PressurPro!

PressurePro is the most affordable insurance you’ll ever have for your vehicle. The “original” tire pressure monitoring system keeps you rolling down the road in all types of weather and conditions. Not much you can fully trust in these days, but you can trust PressurePro.

When rubber meets the road, trailer fleet’s variable costs are mostly in fuel, labor, and rubber. A study was conducted by the State of New York, Willow Run Foods and PAR Logistics, to create, pilot, and test a real-time TPMS to determine savings potential for a fleet.

In 2009, Willow Run Foods and the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority began a study to create, develop, build, pilot, and test an integrated tire pressure monitoring system. The solution utilized TPMS products provided by PressurePro and a cellular-based communications platform from PAR. The system incorporated sensor and internet technologies to provide remote tire pressure as well as low and high pressure alerts in real time, and focused on the proactive prevention of excessive tire pressure wear and tire blow outs. The solution also assisted in decreasing the amount of fuel consumed by the trucks hauling loads by minimizing trailer “”drag” created by under-inflated tires on untethered trailers, chassis, and flatbeds as well as reducing casing damage, lowering tread wear, lessened tire maintenance labor costs, roadside downtime, and ensured more reliable delivery to valued customers.

The integrated PressurePro TPMS solution was piloted on 100 of Willow Run Food’s (“WRF’s) refrigerated trailers for a period of one year. Essential to the pilot was the pre and post-deployment metrics surrounding WRF’s consumption of tires as well as other tire related costs, including fuel, on a quarterly and annualized basis. Results were remarkable.

WRF realized a 58% reduction in operation expenses surrounding tire consumption and tire loss. Additional tire-related costs such as preventative maintenance labor, asset and driver down time and overhead expenses were also realized as a result of the pilot.

What’s the best way to save on fuel? This is a question people ask over and over again, especially in today’s economy. Standard answers such as “Travel at lower speeds”, and “Lighten your load (take all those things out of your RV that you don’t need)”, and “Plan your trips more carefully so you don’t make more trips than necessary” are common suggestions.

BUY A TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM (“TPMS”). This has proven to not only add safety when traveling, but to save on fuel as well. Underinflated tires waste over 5 million gallons of fuel each day! That’s about 2 billion gallons/year in the U.S. alone.

Having a TPMS allows users to continuously monitor pressures, whether moving or parked. Loss of tire pressure is a major factor in contributing to tire damage, ply separation or blow-outs. Knowing what your pressures are at all times, including even while driving down the road, is a key factor in maintaining your tires. A towed vehicle is even at greater risk, since one cannot feel or see if there is a low-pressure tire on the towed vehicle.

A TPMS would alert BEFORE the tire deflates to dangerous levels. Many people think they experienced a blow-out, but usually the tire has picked up a nail, perhaps the day before, and has slowly lost air, until finally there is a blow-out. Knowing ahead of time (the day before or hours before) could have saved the tire in most instances, as one would have been alerted by a low-pressure tire with a monitoring system, and could therefore could have repaired the tire rather than having to replace it. And the cost to repair a tire would have been significantly less than having to replace a tire.

The PressurePro TPMS is a self-install system. The tire Sensors replace the valve stem caps, and the Monitor attaches to the dash area via Velcro and plugs into the cigarette lighter receptacle, or it can be hard wired. One can check tires by the push of a button on the Monitor, even while driving down the road. Sensors are wireless, and transmit to the Monitor; the pressure range is from 8 to 299 psi. Sensors recognize tire pressure at the time of installation as their “base-line” and can be reset or reprogrammed, proving users versatility. The expected battery life for a PressurePro Sensor is five + years. Sensors can then be traded in for brand new ones with new technology and new batteries for $35 rather than $50 each.

PressurePro systems are available for cars, motorcycles, trucks, RVs – anything with wheels. PressurePro truly does offer peace of mind!

How can fleets calculate ROI? There are several things to consider when calculating the real return on investment for a tire pressure monitoring system. A simple ROI calculator tool that reveals a bottom line number could be misleading, as there are several things to consider:

Tire costs should include new tires and retreads. If the tire pressure is maintained properly for the life of the casing, the fleet should be able to get multiple retreads. A tire pressure monitoring system will ensure proper tire pressures.

Fleets should determine all the costs directly associated by utilizing a baseline that consists of fuel costs, tire expense, time and labor to manually check tires, rate and cost of roadside assistance, etc. The improvement from the baseline costs will give the most accurate measurement for true ROI over time.

The cost of road-side assistance is an important advantage in gauging a fleet’s investment return. Since approximately half of all emergency roadside assistance calls are found to be the result of some type of tire failure, the savings can be substantial.

Fuel costs are negatively affected by running improper air pressure levels in tires, i.e. a 10 PSI under-inflation level has been shown, by conservative estimates, to reduce fuel economy by more than 0.5%. A 20 PSI under-inflation level reduces fuel economy by up to 2.0%. For a truck running 100,000 miles per year, this could mean that the vehicle would need to use an extra 340 gallons of fuel (based on an average of 6 mpg). At current diesel fuel prices, the added expense to run an 18-tire vehicle, at 20 PSI below optimal inflation levels, would cost an extra $1,700.00!

One should consider the savings that can result relative to the associated liability for preventable accidents due to tire loss, vehicle downtime and customer penalties due to late or mishandled deliveries.

It is estimated that most fleets will have an ROI in the range of 4-6 months, if the total costs are properly accounted for when using an effective TPMS system.

Summary: A quality TPMS system should be a key element in any fleet maintenance program, especially if overall safety improvement and cost reduction goals are to be met. While tire pressure monitoring systems are extremely effective as stand-alone solutions, the greatest return is found in organizations that are proactive and diligent with their entire maintenance program. A Fleet will profit from a system which is easy to install, easy to use and has an affordable price tag. The larger ROI comes from the combination of the right TPMS product and a maintenance program that focuses on safety awareness.

When selecting a tire pressure monitoring system (“TPMS”), and assuming that a tire pressure monitoring system has all the necessary capabilities (temperature, over and under inflation alarming and slow leak detection), then the following advantages can be realized:

Overall tire life can be substantially extended by monitoring tire pressure in real time. (A 20% under-inflated tire reduces tread life by approximately 25%.)

Properly inflated tires predictably increase overall fuel economy.

Tires that are under-inflated by 20% lose approximately 30% of the life of the casing. A TPMS system significantly extends the life of the casing so that a tire can be safely retreaded up to five (5) times to a useful life of over 1 million miles.

Increases overall safety of the vehicle by detecting overheated, under-inflated, over-inflated and slow-leaking tires.

Helps to prevent late deliveries from unforeseen tire mishaps.

Reduces overall liability exposure for property damage and workers compensation and insurance cost increases from tire blow-outs and tire separation.

Provides the means to help compare various manufacturers’ overall tire performance (tread wear, retreads, etc.) as it relates to tire expense by brand.

Aids in tire benchmarking by collecting, comparing and statistically analyzing tire data. Such things as tire temperature versus tire pressure levels over time, by vehicle type, vehicle weight and tire position can be documented, leading to improved performance against predetermined benchmarks.

What type of fleets are buying tire pressure monitoring systems (“TPMS”)?

Fleets which have trailers hauling hazardous materials, flammable liquids, etc. and often have larger liability concerns with potential catastrophic accidents.

Fleets that have a greater knowledge and understanding of their tire and fuel costs; commonly have a set standard to measure tire performance versus tire expense.

Fleets that have critical on-time delivery schedules such as frozen and refrigerated goods.

Fleets that tend to be more profitable, as safety awareness programs are often found to be a core part of their maintenance agenda.

Trailer only fleets that have independent drivers pulling their trailers. Large trailer yards generally have limited ability to manually check tire pressures on an on-going basis.

So you are going out of town for a long weekend with your family, and are planning on taking along the boat for a getaway out in the ocean. If you are connecting it by a hitch on the back of your SUV or pickup, you want to ensure that you will get to your destination safely, as well as your boat and your car. So a tire pressure monitor is a great way to ensure not only that the pressure on your vehicle’s tires are at the proper level, but that the boat trailer tires are also at the proper tire pressures. True peace of mind is knowing what your tires are doing at all times. Usually a blowout can be averted with a tire pressure monitoring system because you have early warning that you picked up a nail during your drive. Fixing a tire is less expensive than replacing one!

Tire pressure monitoring products today have become so high tech that the driver can place the digital reading Monitor right on his vehicle’s dashboard, simply press a button, and get a reading of all the tire pressures to ensure that everything is at the right pressure. The dashtop Monitor will inform the driver if there is possible danger of one of the tires running too low or too high on pressure during the trip. The Monitor will also inform the driver which tire or tires need to be checked to alert before any damage may occur. You can pull over and then take care of the problem, or you can even watch the pressure on your Monitor and if it is a slow leak, continue driving until you reach a safe destination.

To ensure your family is safe on a long drive, and that your expensive boat won’t be damaged, the use of PressurePro tire pressure monitors are a great way to make sure your vehicle is performing at its highest possible level, and that you are not in danger of an impending blowout either because you picked up a nail or because tire pressure isn’t at the optimal level.
